 Veterans

We owe a great debt of gratitude to our veterans.  Freedom isn’t free, and no one knows that better than those who have sacrificed for our nation.

My office has helped thousands of veterans in our area.  We constantly assist them in cutting through the VA healthcare red tape, receive their disability payments, and make sure they receive any medals they have earned for service to our nation.

I fought alongside veterans groups to bring a veterans healthcare facility to Charlotte.  Veterans now have less travel time and more medical services at their disposal.

In Congress, I voted for concurrent receipt legislation.  When it passed, it was the first time in over 100 years, veterans who have been injured in combat will receive pay for both retirement and disability.

I voted to increase funding for the Montgomery GI Bill, and I support looking at ways to help veteran Reservists, who served in combat zones, with their higher education.

I also voted for the Survivor Benefit Plan, which allows thousands of military survivors to receive increased annuities.  It’s also known as "The Widow's Tax".

I have worked with my colleagues in Congress to make sure veterans have health care facilities close to home.  Now, more than 92% of our veterans are within one hour of a VA facility.  We have also worked with the VA to increase its home health programs for veterans who cannot travel to local facilities.

Congress has also consistently increased VA funding so that the VA can open new clinics, update and expand existing clinics, and bring technology into the mix to provide better healthcare for all veterans.

I will continue to work hard on veteran issues, and assist those in our area who have served us.  If you are a veteran and are in need of assistance, please contact my offices.
