Social Values/ Moral Issues
Nothing is more important than standing up for our families
and what we believe. That’s why I:
- Voted to increase broadcast
indecency fines to $325,000 per offense.
- Voted for a law that
reforms sex offender registration laws and strengthens laws preventing child
pornography.
- Co-sponsored legislation
that would lock up the most violent criminals for life and would encourage
states to keep their most violent offenders behind bars.
- Voted for the Marriage
Protection Amendment.
- Voted for the “Pledge
Protection Act”, which would bar certain courts from stripping out the phrase
“under God” that is in our Pledge of Allegiance.
- Introduced legislations
that would require tough mandatory minimum sentences for convicted sex
offenders who move into a neighborhood and fail to register with the local
sheriff.
- Voted to prevent human
cloning. Private research on embryonic stem cells is one thing, but I do not
support the President’s decision to allow taxpayer funding for research on new
embryonic stem cell lines.
- Voted to permanently
eliminate the Marriage Penalty tax.
- Voted to defeat an
amendment that would have allowed abortions at military facilities.
- Voted to prohibit
taxpayer-funded abortions in the context of the new health care law.
- Co-sponsored a bill to
prevent all forms of taxpayer-funded abortion.
- Voted for “Megan’s
Law”, which would require state and local enforcement agencies to notify
parents if convicted child abusers move into their community.
- Voted for a bill to
prohibit transportation of a minor girl across state lines for an abortion in
order to circumvent parental notification laws.
I
believe that life begins at conception, and while I understand exceptions for
cases of rape or incest, we have a responsibility to protect the unborn and
prohibit taxpayer funding of abortion in this country. The moral and social
values upon which this country was founded are still important today, and I
will continue to stand up for family values in Washington. |
