Economy/Jobs
I'm a firm believer in the fact that government doesn't
create jobs-- entrepreneurs do. Over the past couple of years, the federal
government has passed numerous laws that will create unprecedented regulatory burdens
for American businesses already struggling with poor economic conditions.
Countless businessmen and women have told me that the
uncertainty created by sweeping changes to our health care system, financial
market, tax codes, and possible climate change legislation have led to economic
paralysis. Even businesses that are growing are hesitant to hire new employees
because they are concerned about the risks posed by additional rules,
regulations, and taxes.
The best approach to getting our economy back on track is
to:
- Repeal
Obamacare and replace it with market-based reforms that lower costs for
consumers and employers.
- Extend the
2001 and 2003 tax cuts so families and businesses have certainty about future
obligations.
- Cut
corporate and capital gains taxes
- Promote
domestic oil, gas, and alternative energy production
- Cut
wasteful government spending
- And, revise
financial regulations to spur investment in small businesses and
entrepreneurial activity.
- on all our
goods we send to them! Also our government needs to enforce our trade
agreements so they are fair.
I have:
- Voted to
increase the deprecation rates for small businesses, so that the small business
owner would have access to money to reinvest in his or her business.
- Voted for
$100,000 in tax incentives for small businesses so they can reinvest in their
companies. This will help them expand and create more jobs.
- Voted to
allow small businesses and farmers to deduct up to $25,000 of the cost of
business related equipment.
- Co-sponsored
legislation that would allow self-employed individuals to deduct 100% of their
health insurance premiums.
- Voted to
eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax that affects the middle class.
- Voted to
lower the Capital Gains Tax to encourage investments.
- In 1997, I
helped craft the first balanced budget to pass the House of Representatives
since 1969. If we can do it again, it would lower long term interest
rates for everyone and create new jobs.
- Eliminate Inheritance Tax so families don’t have
to sell the family farm to pay Uncle Sam.
